The 40 minute DVD shows how the legionella bacteria spreads and multiplies in drinking water. The DVD gives a comprehensive overview of the precautions you can take to prevent infection, but also shows how doctors used to diagnose the disease and how much more easily and quickly this can be done nowadays. It also features the tragedies in Philadelphia in 1976 and in Bovenkarspel, the Netherlands in 1999.
Interviews with experts involved in the aftermath of that tragedy clearly show why the diagnosis of ‘a legionella infection’ came too late for many and burdened others with the long-term consequences of Legionnaires’ disease. They tell their story for the first time in these probing interviews. You can also see the stories of surviving relatives of the victims at Bovenkarspel. The DVD shows that since 1999 there are still people being infected every year, including young people!
The subtitle of the DVD ‘2009: where do we stand ten years after Bovenkarspel?’ clearly spells out its message.
